Authorities Having Jurisdiction
In Canada codes and standards are enforced by the Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ’s) which can be at the federal, provincial or municipal level.
Elevators in commercial buildings are regulated by provincial regulators which enforce elevator safety codes and standards in each province. However these regulators, except for Quebec, do not enforce elevator safety codes and regulations on private residence elevators.
